A Citizens Group

MISSION

SDSBT Mission Statement
To encourage and empower citizens in opposition to the spread of industrialization in the Bridger-Teton National Forest,(BTNF); to stop drilling in the BTNF; to stimulate local citizen action; to engage federal agencies and leadership; and to stop the rapid spread of energy exploitation that threatens ecologically important areas.

Every little bit helps, small efforts by many people speak far louder than huge effort by a few.

ACCOMPLISHED

President signs The Wyoming Range Legacy Act into law
On March 30, 2009 The Wyoming Range Legacy Act was signed into law. SDSBT and many other citizen and conservation groups, in a grass roots effort to protect Wyoming’s namesake mountains, worked tirelessly to see this effort through. The omnibus legislation comprises more than 150 public lands, water and resources bills and numerous measures of importance to the state and especially sportsmen.

The Wyoming Range Legacy Act prohibits future energy leasing on 1.2 million acres of big-game habitat and protect native trout waters. The Act allows companies who hold leases in the area designated in the legislation to donate the leases to conservation and also permits groups to buy and retire existing energy leases.

NEXT STEPS

SDSBT’s next challenge is to work toward lease donation and buy-back to protect those areas where leases are already held but there is no exploration or production currently.
